Full Description
New for 2026, this program is designed for volunteer firefighters seeking to meet NFPA 1010, Chapter 6 requirements for Firefighter I. The course includes both cognitive and hands-on skills training, with skills testing conducted at the Mississippi State Fire Academy. Students will learn essential fireground operations, including PPE use, SCBA operations, communications, ladder work, hose handling, search and rescue, fire suppression, ventilation, overhaul, salvage, and utility control. Training emphasizes safe work practices, team integrity, and compliance with current NFPA standards. Completion ensures participants have the knowledge and ability to perform as Firefighter I within their department’s SOPs and provides a pathway to higher-level training. This course is rigorous, and testing requirements are strict to meet the NFPA 1010 standard.
